About Us
Hi I’m Rosella
Born and Raised in the beautiful island of Sardinia, I grew up very close to nature. The weekends in the mild winters were always in our countryside where we grew olives, oranges, lemons, tiny apples, walnuts, quinces and medlars.
My summers were on the beach! Always, all daylong! My father, a real hippie, taught me to rub my skin with sand as scrub, to apply olive oil on nails to strengthen them and to walk on seaweeds to smooth the feet and absorb healing minerals. Everything had to be pure and free from any chemicals.
As a young woman, For about ten years I traveled the world and lived in Bali and Brazil. These two places changed my life forever. In Bali, I got in close contact with the local religion called Siwa Buddha. Its animistic use of and devotion to nature touched me to depths I was not used to. My studies in painting and dance then brought me to Brazil where dance, leaves and spirituality fuse together in the African tradition of Candomble’. The Goddesses of the salty and sweet water, Yemanja and Oxun took me as their child and never left me.
Interestingly, it was in NYC that I deepened my knowledge of herbs, natural remedies, and my relationship with the Orixas. I got Initiated in the Lukumi tradition while pregnant with my first child.
But it was the second pregnancy that established my bond with Orixa and in particular Oxun. I was facing some serious issues that would have forced me to have medical procedures and threaten my baby’s life. I went to Orixa to ask for guidance. Oxun took charge and promised to protect my baby girl and I, and assured me that everything would have been fine.
My daughter was born at home as I so desperately desired, naturally, healthy and strong. I named her Wura, gold in Yoruba language, as that is the metal that symbolizes Oxun as homage to her. This skin care line is a reminder for every woman of their value, because you are gold! But most of all, this skin care line is an homage to Oxun: the goddess of sweet water, femininity, beauty, sensuality; the fierce and powerful goddess that runs my show!
Ora yeye’!
